Our Mission
Our mission at Cimetrix is enabling our customers to improve the performance and cost effectiveness of production equipment through the superior use of software technologies. To accomplish this, our core competencies are disciplined software development, knowledge of our customer's applications and industry standards, and a dedication to providing the best customer support in the industry. Software is usually the critical path of a new automated machine design or factory start-up. Cimetrix products and services break through this software bottleneck by enabling robust designs, reducing development time and always providing excellent technical support.
Our connectivity software solutions are aimed at the semiconductor, flat panel, SMT (Surface Mount Technology) and electronics assembly markets. One of our key markets is the semiconductor industry, which is currently undergoing a transition from 200mm wafers to 300mm wafers. This transition to larger wafers significantly increases the level of factory automation, which changes the tools, material handling systems, host systems, and people systems in the wafer fab. SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International) has introduced many standards to allow this dramatic change to be implemented as cost effectively as possible. Cimetrix has established itself as the leading independent provider of software to enable production tools to be compliant with the new SEMI 300mm standards.
Our motion software products tackle the tough, demanding, motion intensive applications such as SMT mounting equipment, semiconductor tools, electronics assembly equipment, robots, and packaging equipment. We focus on the industries that leverage PC technology and won't consider being constrained by older proprietary controllers. Our solutions both control the actual equipment and communicate necessary data leveraging standards and the internet. We are driven to provide equipment OEMs with the right software tools to reduce costs during equipment design, integration/runoff, and in-field maintenance. We accomplish this by leveraging the latest in software technologies, having expertise in each industry we serve, and always focusing on customer support.
All of our software products leverage open architecture, object oriented designs and industry standards. We specialize in using Microsoft operating systems and development environments to maximize the technologies available from Microsoft. By following disciplined development and testing processes we are able to meet the stringent reliability requirements of today's automated factory floor. This software development core competence is the foundation of all Cimetrix products.
Our History
The concept for the Cimetrix open architecture motion control software originated at Brigham Young University ("BYU") in Provo, Utah, USA in the 1980s. In the late 80's Cimetrix used the core PC based technology of 6 axis robot control and advanced inaccuracy compensation and calibration techniques to develop a unique software framework bringing to life the Cimetrix Open Development Environment (CODE). Since then, Cimetrix has been receiving increased worldwide recognition and acceptance of the Company's technology by leading manufacturers and machine builders and continues to invest heavily in the development of new calibration and motion control technology.
In the mid 90's, Cimetrix expanded into the equipment connectivity business through a joint partnership with Motorola. Seeing the success of standards based equipment connectivity, Cimetrix looked for other opportunities for similar connectivity needs in the industrial automation space. In the late 90's, Cimetrix began investing in the semiconductor industry to prepare for the emerging 300mm market transition. After developing second generation connectivity products targeted at the semiconductor 300mm transition, Cimetrix software is now installed in every major 300mm fab and we are a respected leading supplier of automation software to the semiconductor industry.
In 2001, Cimetrix realized the need for industrial automation equipment to provide remote systems with specific process data via real-time, high-speed, flexible network conduits. Cimetrix made significant efforts to improve the system performance and flexibility of its existing connectivity product lines to capitalize on the emerging need and resulting new standards. This ultimately led Cimetrix to the emerging eManufacturing segment where Cimetrix now has new products being used in production which are needed to route and gather the equipment data for the new demanding eManufacturing systems being planned and implemented around the world.
Cimetrix software is currently operational in production installations on a wide variety of semiconductor (front-end and back-end), specialized electronics assembly and SMT equipment (printer, disk drive and pager assembly; and chip placement, flip chip placement) with thousands of software licenses shipped. Hundreds of companies have purchased sophisticated Software Development Kits (SDK) from Cimetrix in order to design and implement automated industrial solutions using the Cimetrix software.
