About Cimetrix
Cimetrix is a software company that provides factory connectivity and equipment automation solutions for implementing the SEMI standards. Offering both products and services, we provide a ‘one-stop shop’ to the manufacturing community for advanced tool control and general purpose equipment connectivity. Establishing ourselves as the industry leader, our solutions are focused on successful implementation of the SEMI connectivity standards - SECS/GEM, GEM300, Interface A/ EDA - to enable faster time to market, lower total cost of ownership and optimized productivity.
Cimetrix software can be found in production installations on a wide variety of semiconductor (front-end and back-end), photovoltaic, specialized electronics assembly and SMT equipment with over 10,000 GEM interfaces shipped to date. Currently, our products are used by over 80 equipment suppliers on virtually every tool type in nearly every 300mm factory worldwide.
All of our software products leverage open-architecture, object-oriented designs and industry standards. We specialize in using Microsoft operating systems and development environments to maximize the technologies available from Microsoft. By following disciplined development and testing processes, we are able to meet the stringent reliability requirements of today's automated factory floor. This software development core competence is the foundation of all Cimetrix products.
Cimetrix is a public company with main offices in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. We serve members of the manufacturing community around the world. Cimetrix Europe SARL is loacted in Amancy, France. Our Japanese distributor, ONC, is in Tokyo, Japan.
Our Mission
At Cimetrix, our primary goal is our customers’ success. Whether a customer is simply purchasing our products or leveraging our resources for a full-scale outsourcing, our team is passionately dedicated to enabling faster time to market, lower total cost of ownership and completing projects on-time and on-budget.
Software is usually the critcal path of new automated machine design or factory start up. Cimetrix products and services break through this bottleneck using our disciplined software development practices, domain expertise in the industry standards and customer applications as well as best-in-class technical support. Our award-winning software products are widely-accepted in production installations around the world. Our focus remains on pursuing unmatched comprehension of the SEMI standards and their implementation. Combining the robust design and reliability of our software with our seasoned engineering team, we provide a single point of contact and responsibility to our customers. Following proven methodologies to meet the unique requirements of each customer, Cimetrix takes total responsibility for our customers' success. .
Cimetrix holds our customers' trust in highest regard and understands the importance of being a "partner" vs. "supplier." We vow to consistently deliver reliable results using innovation, experience and intgrity. Cimetrix is not only your safest SEMI standards-based software solutions partner, we are also the best one.
Our History
Cimetrix was founded in 1990 focused on advanced motion control. The concept for the Cimetrix open architecture motion control software was initially developed at Brigham Young University (BYU). Cimetrix used this core PC-based technology to develop a unique software framework, bringing to life the Cimetrix Open Development Environment (CODE).
In the mid 90s, Cimetrix expanded into the equipment connectivity business through a joint partnership with Motorola and the development of our first GEM interface software product targeting the printed circuit board industry. Seeing the success of standards-based connectivity, Cimetrix looked for similar opportunities in the industrial automation space. In the late 90's, Cimetrix began investing in the semiconductor industry to prepare for the emerging 300mm market transition, introducing CIM300 for 300mm factory connectivity.
In 2001, Cimetrix realized the need for industrial automation equipment to provide remote systems with specific process data via real-time, high-speed, flexible network conduits. Cimetrix made significant efforts to improve the system performance and flexibility of its existing connectivity product lines to capitalize on the emerging need and resulting new standards, Equipment Data Acquisition (EDA), also known as Interface A. Cimetrix believed that regardless of whether or not the standard would be accepted, the fabs and equipment suppliers would need access to higher quality data to improve efficiencies and productivity. This belief ultimately led to the development of new products focused on high speed equipment data acquisition for the new demanding eManufacturing systems being planned and implemented.
Responding to industry demands, Cimetrix introduced its Global Services team in late 2004, consisting of a seasoned team of industry professionals with backgrounds from AMD, TRW, GW, Novellus, Aixtron and Brooks Automation. Many equipment suppliers were - and still are - adopting the strategy of focusing their R&D investments on their core process and leveraging outside resources to handle factory automation and tool control. With years of expertise and domain knowledge, Cimetrix’s Global Services group has a defined, transparent project methodology aimed at gaining on-time tool acceptance in the fabs. Our proven processes for managing and delivering software solutions allow us to deliver your project on-time and on-budget.
In 2006, Cimetrix began an 18-month joint development project with Axcelis Technologies to create a next generation tool control framework. Merging our experience with the SEMI connectivity standards, high-speed data acquisition and tool control, the result of the project was the robust, flexible and data-driven architecture that Cimetrix markets as CIMControlFramework.
Today, Cimetrix is one of the most trusted sources for implementation of the SEMI standards. We continue to be actively involved in industry standard development, maintaining Co-Chair positions on both the SEMI NA GEM300 and DDA task forces, taking an active role in the new PV2 standard for photovoltaics and implementing pilot projects for ISMI to prove out advancements for their member companies. Additional members of the manufacturing community continue to migrate toward wide-spread adoption of the SEMI standards to improve productivity and efficiency. Those industries, such as the photovoltaic, flat panel and PCB markets, turn to the experts at Cimetrix for the tools and knowledge necessary for successful SEMI standard implementation.
