Mek-A-Nize Robotics Introduces A New-Style SCARA Robot Arm
Colorado Springs, Colorado September 16, 1999 Mek-A-Nize Robotics announces the availability of a new line of SCARA-style robots for a variety of applications including cleanroom use. The robots inverted mounting and extended joint rotations provide for 100% access to the work area. The vertical motion (Z-Axis) of the MR-Series "Mek-A-Bots" differs from traditional SCARAs in that the motion occurs at the robot base as opposed to the wrist. The benefits include: virtually unlimited amount of Z travel; 100% accessibility within the reach diameter; and cleaner operation by keeping the Z-mechanism and service loops contained and away from potentially sensitive product.
The robots feature an open architecture PC controller running Cimetrix CODE software. The software allows off-line creation of robot simulation models including operator and programmer interaction. The system includes the benefits of a PC-based controller providing universal integration capabilities, highly desirable today.
Mounting of the robots can be either upright, for full pass-over capability, or inverted for full pass-under capability. The Z-axis motion at the base, combined with the extended 370° joint rotations, allows access to any point within the diameter traced out by the arms full extension. The result is very time-efficient and space-efficient moves.
Robot joints feature brushless DC servos with harmonic drive gearing and hollow joints. The hollow joints allow for all wiring and hoses to be routed within the arm including several auxiliary sensor and hose lines available for end-effector use. Internal routing contributes to both cleanliness and reliability.
Mek-A-Nize Robotics recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary of supplying unparalleled robotic solutions to the industrial and manufacturing markets. Further information is available from the companys web site: http://www.mekanize.com.
