Smart Manufacturing: An Evolving Nexus of Business Drivers, Technologies, and Standards

By: Alan Weber, Director New Product Innovations, Cimetrix Incorporated

The SEMI Smart Manufacturing Council was formed by request of many SEMI members to share information and coordinate pre-competitive activities. The committee adopted the following working definition of Smart Manufacturing:

"The use of production and sensor data with manufacturing technologies to connect the supply chain and enable adaptability in processing on the factory floor to improve yield and cycle time"

The committee conducted Smart Manufacturing Readiness and Implementation Benchmark Survey in the summer of 2019. They also sponsor annual workshops for practitioners across the supply chain to identify challenges and collaboration opportunities.
